Take it on Tuesday: We are not supposed to show up small
Take it on Tuesday!
We are not supposed to show up small- Jade Simmons
From the time I was a little girl as a busing student, through law school, and through my professional career, I always felt that I needed to be far better than others. Well, why? Because my mother, family, and teachers told me I must be since I was a little girl! Guess what? I was far better than most because I needed to be. I am not the only one who rose to the top; others who looked like me also rose to the top. But even still, to this day, it takes a lot from me emotionally to combat comments and interactions designed to make me feel small. Decisions that make me feel less or to put me in my place. Actions designed to disempower me. But I reminded myself daily that I must pull it together because others depend on me. I still feel that obligation today.
As a leader and a senior corporate executive, my job is to ensure that others show up big. I want them to see themselves in me, dispel their negative thoughts, and to do my part to make sure they are provided with opportunities to reach their full potential to be successful.
I want others to feel the power of this quote. " You can't bring me down, I am way too high up. Nothing that you say can change a thing, there's a greater voice affirming me. High UP Gospel Artist Jonathan Taylor.
